WAITRO is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit association established in 1970 to promote and encourage cooperation among research and technology organizations (RTOs). It was founded under the auspices of the United Nations system and has consultative status with many of its specialized agencies. WAITRO currently counts 160 members in 76 countries offering a great network of expertise and know-how.


SAIRA is WAITRO’s Open Innovation Hub that connects research and technology organizations, the private sector, and start-ups to tackle the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, from climate change and food security to infectious diseases and more. By bringing established experts together with upstart innovators, WAITRO is facilitating long-term initiatives that can improve millions of lives and sustain themselves over time.
