2. Main Purpose of the Organization

ICAO was created in 1944 to promote the safe and orderly development of civil aviation in the world. A specialized agency of the United Nations, it sets international standards and recommended practices necessary for the safety, security, efficiency and regularity of air transport and serves as the medium for co-operation in all fields of civil aviation among its 185 Contracting States.

3. R&D Project Co-operation and Training

ICAO’s Technical Co-operation programme provides technical assistance to developing countries to improve their civil aviation facilities in accordance with ICAO’s standards and recommended practices.

4. Application Procedure

Enquire at UNDP office in the country, through one of ICAO's seven regional offices (addresses on web site) or directly to Organizaiton's Headquarters in Montreal.
