The WAITRO-ISESCO-SIRIM Research Fellowship Programme (WRFP) is a collaboration programme among three organisations namely, the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organizations (WAITRO), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and SIRIM of Malaysia.

The objective of this programme is to introduce scientists and researchers in the early stages of their careers to research opportunities abroad, which are at well-established Centres of Excellence of WAITRO Member Organisations.

WRFP is a good platform for the scientists and researchers to be equipped with the basic skills and knowledge in order to solve technological problems. This will also be a good opportunity for them to take part in a programme which has elements of ‘Train the Trainers’ whereby the participants at the end of the programme are able to train others in their respective countries what they have learnt and benefit from this programme.

The Research Fellowship Programme for the scientists and researchers is an excellent effort to increase the capability in sciences and technology in developing member countries of WAITRO and ISESCO. This is in tune with the three core trusts under the WAITRO Medium Term Plan, which is to undertake activities or projects that will strengthen the capacity of Research Technology Organisations (RTOs) of WAITRO members.

The two-week research fellowship programme is a capability building programme for young scientists and researchers who are currently working in research institutes from the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions.

Besides gaining some experience, knowledge and information on current development of technology and science, participants will have the opportunity to network and collaborate with other scientists working in their respective fields.

The objectives of the programme are:

i. To equip the participants with knowledge on research elements.

ii. To enhance the knowledge of participants in understanding the Intelligent System applications and able to apply the knowledge and skills learned into real applications.

iii. To expose the participants with the ‘Train the Trainers’ elements that allow them to share their knowledge and experience as a trainer to other people.

iv. To get introduced to SIRIM’s educational robotic kit.

The Fellowship Programme will be carried out in Selangor or other identified locations in Malaysia from 23 October-3 November, 2017.

This programme will look into research in the field of Intelligent System. Intelligent System is a machine with an embedded, internet-connected computer that has the capacity together and analyse data and communicate with other systems.

The criteria for acceptance of participants for this programme are as follows:

a. General

Participation is only open to WAITRO and ISESCO member organisations.

b. For the Participants

The candidate should have a relevant educational background in the area of electrical or electronic engineering. He/she must be below 35 years old with one to three years of work experience.
