WAITRO Research Fellowship Programme in Machinery and Tooling Technology
The WAITRO Research Fellowship Programme (WRFP) in Machinery and Tooling Technology is another WAITRO-ISESCO joint initiative to introduce scientists and researchers in the early stages of their careers to research opportunities at well-established Centres of Excellence of WAITRO member organisations abroad. The WRFP has proven to be a good platform for capability building of young researchers in their chosen fields.
Young scientists from WAITRO member organisations were invited to participate in the WRFP. Participation included members from the Iranian Research organization for Sciences and Technology (IROST); National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan; Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Nigeria; Industrial Research and Consultancy Centre (IRCC), Sudan; Tanzania Industrial Research and Development Organization (TIRDO); Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) and Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI). The Programme was held from October 12 to december 4, 2009 at SIRIM Berhad in Malaysia and it was conducted by resource persons from the National Centre of Machinery and Tooling Technology, SIRIM Berhad.
Participants were exposed to theory and new technology implemented in sand casting, die casting, welding and plastic injection mould design and manufacturing concepts, Even with the busy schedule of the WRFP, three participants from IRCC, TISTR and UIRI took the opportunity to take the AWS Certified Welding Inspectors Professional Welder Examination.
Besides gaining some experience, knowledge and information on current development of machinery and tooling technology, the participants had the opportunity to network and collaborate with other scientists working in their respective fields.
